After the Visit

Sunday night, after we visited my brother's new house (which is great), we ate dinner with Glenn, Eileen, Emily and Sarah. Eileen and Glenn made London broil on the grill, with baked potatoes and a really good cauliflower and tomato casserole. I ate Emilio's pizza. It is my absolute favorite (http://emiliosonlinemenu.com/).

Monday night I made a roasted chicken with Leslie's gravy (way yummy) and spinach on the side.

Tuesday night I made shrimp and chorizo with escarole on the side.

Michael has a baseball meeting on Wednesday night, so I am not cooking.

For Thursday I plan (plan being the operative word) to make a slow-cooked barbecued pork.

Friday night, last week, was my 47th birthday :) We went to My Moon with Joe and Denise and Barbara, Paul and Jackie. We had every spread, calamari, tuna tartare, doner kebab, chicken kebab, pan seared tuna and ribeye with peppercorns. Two bottles of Turkish wine, coffee, tea and truffle cake and Turkish flan. A really great evening with some of my favorite people!

The weekend is open...Enjoy the warmth, while it lasts :)

Spanakopita

Chicken Marsala on Monday was good.

Spanakopita on Tuesday was better.

First I sauteed onions in olive oil.

Then I mixed the onions with spinach, eggs, feta cheese, salt and pepper.

Then I layered and buttered and layered and buttered 8 sheets of phyllo (or filo, if you prefer) dough in the bottom of a lasagna pan, added the spinach mixture, then layered and buttered and layered and buttered 8 more sheets of phyllo on top.

Then baked and ate and shared with Jill too :)

Last night we went to Dee's with Denise and shared an Aphrodite pizza (mozzarella, feta, tomato sauce, spinach and calamata olives).

Tonight Barbara and Jennie are taking me to Sato for my birthday!

Friday night we are eating at My Moon with Joe and Denise!

Saturday we'll be at Glenn and Eileen's for a birthday dinner for me and Leslie!

Sunday we are visiting my brother at his new house.

So busy, so nice!

Rest is for the weary...which I will be next week :)

The Weekend

Friday night was Pizza Night. Michael brought home a pie and salad from Dani's (our VERY favorite pizza in Queens).

Saturday we went to My Moon again with Dina and Dmitry. It was just as good as last time. And they had NO TURKISH WINE, just as last time. Very odd for a Turkish influenced restaurant... In any case, their Turkish coffee is good (we did not have dessert last time) and the flan was good as well. Next time we'll have to try their baklava. Appetizers were just as good and the main courses were also (I did not order one, nor did I have soup). Maybe I was saving myself for Jill and Lenny's later.

Where we went about 10pm for drinks with a bunch of Forest Hills friends. Didn't make it to our apartment (5 floors up) 'till after 1am.

Sunday was Valentine's Day and yes we went to Fairway in Red Hook. It is the quintessential market in the city! However, before food shopping we ate breakfast (brunch) at EGG in Williamsburg. I had the Eggs Rothko (with kale and tomato on the side) VERY YUMMY! And Michael had Chorizo and Eggs (maybe he'll try something else next time), but he didn't complain :)

Jesse is on vacation (again) for 1 week. This time it's Mid Winter Recess, so I may not be cooking as much this coming week, but that always leaves room for experimentation, as I just purchased a hand cranked past machine ($39 at Bed, Bath and Beyond)...Will keep you informed on the progress of home made pasta!

Tomorrow night we are going back to FINO (http://www.finowinetapas.com/) in Bayside where we have been before with Kim and Andy and George and Joanne. This time we are going with Denise and Joe and Penny and Joe. It is a great place with an extensive wine list, wonderful tapas and good service. Full review later in the week.

Have fun in the snow that's coming, again :)

Did you see the Moon last night?

It was the closest to the earth it will be this year...additionally....we ate at My Moon last night too.

My Moon is my new favorite spot in Williamsburg. There was absolutely nothing negative to say about it, except that we had to eventually stop eating and leave.

Michael and I went there with our very good friends Jill , Lenny, and Judy.

I ordered all the appetizers (because I don't usually order an entree). We had: Shepherd salad (chopped cucs, tomatoes, red onion and parsley-we added feta. Tuna tartare (odd for a Turkish restaurant I will agree, but delicious all the same), it came piled on avocado and home made potato chips on the side. Steamed artichoke (as Lenny says "It might choke Artie but it won't choke Stymie") with beurre blanc on the side to dip (way yummy). Mixed olives, Humus, Caciki (Turkish tszatziki), Giant fava beans with tomato (my favorite) and phyllo wrapped around feta.

Dinner....was: Grilled salmon, chicken fricasse, braised pork belly and iskander kabob (beef and lamb). Everything was shared, everything was great.

The service was good, waiter (Sergio) was very friendly and knowledgeable (except they ran out of Turkish wine...strange).

The space is AMAZING and AWESOME. High ceilings, mixed media art work (for sale), wood tables, wood floors, brick walls, candle light, beautiful bar along the back wall, curved banquet seating made from reclaimed ship steel (including rivets). (Cool restrooms as well).

I CANNOT wait to go back.

They have the most beautiful outdoor seating area. CANNOT wait for the 1st of June (Judy's idea to go back and grab a table outside).
