Parkside

Tuesday night I went to Parkside (http://parksiderestaurantny.com/) with Sue.  Sue was one of my mom's best friends and a part of our family my entire life.  We haven't spent time together in a while so it was really  nice that we went out together.

We shared arugula salad, a half carafe of red and a pistachio profiterole.  Wine was iffy, salad and dessert were good.  For dinner Sue had veal picatta and I had escarole and white beans over linguine (not on the menu, but they made it for me just the same).  Decent food, average service (although water was replenished frequently).  It was crowded all through dinner and even more crowded when we left.  Parkside continues to be a staple of the neighborhood.

Tonight I made turkey chili and tomorrow is chicken soup.  It feels like winter, so winter food is on the menu.  Hopefully I can begin to cook on the grill on my terrace sooner rather than later.  We do need sunshine!

Cooking and not...

So I've been cooking, and not...

Michael and I have been to The Village Grill, Joe's Shanghai and The Blackwater Inn.  The grill is on Yellowstone Boulevard near the Little League fields.  We had gyros and soup.  Average, nothing to write home about, certainly not overflowing like Fontana, nor as tasty. But local and easy to sit and eat and leave.  We went to Joe's Shanghai in Flushing with Jill and Lenny.  Soup dumplings of course; just pork and pork and crab; young chow rice; pork and string beans in black bean sauce and prawns and scallops in garlic sauce. Yum! And because we went early, we just walked in and sat down...priceless :)  Michael and I also went to The Blackwater Inn last week (used to be called The Old Brog) on Metropolitan Avenue.  Beers; shepherd's pie and chicken Caesar.  Their shepherd's pie used to be better, but you can walk in and sit down.

Lately I have a thing about waiting for a table. Pisses me off.

Jesse is home and I have also been cooking:  Chicken soup, chicken cutlets, shrimp in a garlicky marinara over linguine.  Tomorrow is pork roast with sauerkraut; salt potatoes (small white potatoes, boiled in a pot of water with a TON of salt) and Brussels sprouts.

Saturday is Glenn and Eileen's annual ornament exchange party and I am bringing Old Bay wings.

Sunday I am doing nothing :)

Tapas (not topless)

Tonight we went to Tapeo 29 with Joe and Denise (http://www.tapeo29.com/main.html). A nice tapas bar downtown, very near Clinton Street Bakery.

We had: Marinated olives, spanish omelette with potatoes, cheese plate with Manchego, Mahon and chorizo, shrimp in garlic, vegetarian paella, marinated hangar steak and a bottle of Malbec.

It's a very cute place, with good service and good food. We were very happy!

Earlier today I made a big pot of chicken soup (very good especially on a very cold day).

Tomorrow we are going to Glenn and Eileen's until half time, then to Lori's brother Joe's house for the rest of the Jets game. Cross your fingers!
