Slacking Off!!!

Yes, I am! And I am sorry. We have been so busy with wakes and funeral, and graduations and birthdays and regular life-stuff that I haven't spent time at the desk typing.

Wednesday June 16 was the 2nd Annual Memorial Dinner for Lou Carbone at Verona Restaurant in Melville. Food is good, company is better, donations to cancer patients-the best!

Friday June 18 we went to Baci Abbracci in Williamsburg with Joe and Denise and Tom and Monica. Food was good, outdoor seating was better, company was the best!

Saturday June 19 we left the beach and spent the evening under the stars at Vin and Wendy's with Steve and Lori and had good food and good company!

Sunday, we spent Father's Day with Joe and Denise (and our boys were actually there for a few minutes)!!!

Monday, I wandered Chinatown looking for a knock-off Louis Vuitton belt for Jesse (no luck) and also discovered that Chatham Restaurant with THE BEST pork buns has lost their lease and are now closed. Total Bummer!

Last night we met the Wisners at La Bella Cucina (near Juniper Park) for Jill's birthday!! Food was okay, service sucked but the company was great!!

Tomorrow, Jesse is Graduating High School!!!! We are having lunch at Vincent's on Old Country Road afterwards. Then I am coming home to COLLAPSE!

Party at Dee's

Yesterday I was honored to be included in the graduation celebrations of Jackie, Joey and Katie. Barbara and Paul were wonderful hosts, as usual!

We had wine and cocktails, veggie pizza, meat pizza and plain pizza (Dee's makes GREAT brick oven pizza), then came the salad, then came the pasta: Primavera, shrimp with broccoli and I am drawing a blank (sorry). Dessert was this big, beautiful chocolate graduation cake and coffee.

I sat with Jennie, Jeffrey, Miriam and Carlos. I danced with Katie and Jennie (just once, a personal request from Katie). We had great conversation with great friends.

I walked to Dee's after Jill and I walked the Austin Street Street Fair. It was a really good day!

Saturday Afternoon

Since I last wrote, I made chicken cacciatore for dinner one night and breakfast of eggs, bacon and toast this morning.

Last night we went to dinner with Joe and Denise at El Quijote on 23rd Street. Yummy! garlic soup, clams quijote, manchego cheese with olives, salad, arroz con pollo, lobster paella, cafe con leche and yucky apple pie :(

Company was totally worthwhile!

Today was a wash out of sorts, weather wise. Later this afternoon we are going to Leslie's for a BBQ and bringing wine (what else?). That will be fun!

Tomorrow Barbara and Paul are having a graduation party for Jackie, Joey and Katie at Dee's. I am looking forward to good food, good wine and mostly good friends! Congratulations to all the graduates!

Today, Tuesday

On Saturday, Michael and I went to Ethan's Bar Mitzvah. The party was at Burton and Doyle Steakhouse. The food was really good. During cocktails JUMBO shrimp, baby lamb chops, tuna tartare, crab cakes and chicken on skewers were passed on trays. Sushi was presented in giant boats set on the bar. Todd Wolfe (and his band) played. They were great as always. Dinner was your choice of filet mignon, grilled salmon (I had mine nearly raw-yummy), chicken (I can't remember how it was prepared, and I don't think anyone ordered it-steakhouse-remember) and grilled marinated skirt steak (Michael thought it was great). All accompanied by potatoes (didn't eat them) and creamed spinach (could have eaten a gallon-but didn't). Dessert was fresh berries with real whipped cream and red velvet cupcakes. Coffee was excellent. Bloody Mary's really good too. Cabernet (my 3 glasses) was really good. DJ played, people danced, got henna tattoos, played blackjack (1 table set up with Lizzie as dealer), had photos taken and put on your choice of backgrounds, key chains, etc.

I came home and collapsed. Slept until 9:30pm. Woke up, ordered pizza and salad from D'Angelo's on 108th Street.

Sunday, I did laundry. I kept expecting it to rain, as I have for the past 7 days, since that's what the weather forecast has predicted. But they have been wrong most days, and it poured for a minute, then the sun came out. Michael was at the fields.

Dinner was marinated, grilled chicken cutlets and escarole with garlic and tomatoes (which became escarole, garlic, tomatoes and white beans for me).

Monday was rigatoni with broccoli, garlic and oil.

Today, Tuesday I am not cooking. It is the night of my last SLT and PA meetings (EVER). Not quite sure how to feel...happy, relieved, sad, nostalgic...all of the above. Jesse is graduating and I guess so am I.

Jesse's senior prom is Wednesday night at Chateau Briand On Old Country Road, then overnight at the "after-prom" house in the Hamptons. No school on Thursday for Brooklyn-Queens Day and senior barbecue on Friday. Monday 6/14 is the last full day of classes. Then Regents, then graduation, then GET A JOB for god's sake :)

Saturday will be our 27th anniversary of dating. Seems like yesterday at Charlotte Beach on Lake Ontario 6/12/83 when Michael and I first met. Maybe we'll be at the beach here.

No Pizza Last Night

I didn't order pizza last night. We didn't eat before the Senior Awards Ceremony.

Jesse received the Marketing Lab Certificate for outstanding work in the school store!

I read a list of twenty names of the recipients of the Parents Association Scholarship Essay awards and checks!

Jesse went out with his friends. Michael and I went to Dani's: Salad, Eggplant Parm casserole, and chicken with peppers and onions. One beer, One wine and home.

Who knows what is in store for tonight, however, tomorrow is Kim and Andy's son Ethan's Bar Mitzvah. Party/Lunch at Burton & Doyle. Then Sunday is up in the air too.

Enjoy the sunshine!

Oak and Oar

Busy and not so busy weekend.

Friday night there was a barbeque at the Little League fields. Turkey burgers, hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, devil dogs, etc...:)

Saturday, I wasn't ever sure what the weather was doing, so I napped most of the day (yippee! really!). In the evening, we went to Oak, Wine Bar and Cafe (www.oakwinebar.com) in Williamsburg with Jill and Lenny. We sat outside (fantastic) and had: Polenta with goat cheese and wild mushroom truffles, garlic shrimp, salad and butternut squash soup. Then we had: Gnocchi with gorgonzola and walnut cream sauce, seared scallops with orzo, oranges, grapefruit and arugula salad, drunken baby ribs with mashed potatoes. Ohara's Irish Red beer was really good, and so was the bottle of Chianti. For dessert we had: Tiramisu and I can't remember, but it was all GREAT and the service was great too. It was our second time there, first time with Joe and Denise.

Sunday we went to the beach for a few hours, quickly showered, sat in traffic and finally arrived in Patchogue for Sarah's dance recital, which was surprisingly really good (of course, Sarah was great, but I was referring to the other dances). Then we had dinner with Glenn and Eileen at The Oar (www.theoar.com) on the water in Patchogue. We had: Fried calamari and tuna tartare. There was schmutz floating in my wine glass, so they brought me another. For dinner we had: An Oar Burger, Swordfish, Tuna and Penne ala Vodka. Dessert was a hot brownie with vanilla ice cream and again, I can't remember the other one. I must be getting old....

Monday was a full day at the beach. Finally...relaxing with my toes in the sand...Dinner was egglant parm hero, veal parm hero and a pizza pie from Dani's. What could be better?

The best part of the weekend was sharing it with friends!

Today is a busy "Polikoff Home" day or should I say "Jan Day": Dry cleaners, post office, food shopping, laundry, make dinner (possibly, and this is a first for us, breakfast for dinner-blueberry buttermilk pancakes and Nodine's smokehouse bacon-I have been planning that for breakfast for so long, that I think I may just have to do it tonight).

Today is also Joe and Denise's baby boys 18th birthdays! All our love to Bobby, Ian and JoJo.

Till next time...
