It is the New Year! Better than the old year, hopefully.
Dinner at Il Poeta (http://www.ilpoetarestaurant.com/) was fun because of the company, the food is ok, but I don't need to go back. We had: Fried calamari (very good); Del Poeta salad-Romaine, olives, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes in balsamic dressing (very average); Eggplant croquettes (good); Salad with goat cheese (ok); Pappardelle with bay scallops and shrimp in a light tomato lobster sauce (good, but small portion); sole (ok I think); Ravioli with spinach (average) and Veal Milanese (large cutlet, but average taste). The service is good and the matre 'd was especially nice and called to let Denise know that our table would be about 15 minutes late, and it was ready when we arrived.
Afterward, Michael and I picked up Jesse at home then headed out to Leslie's for a New Years Eve party that was fun!!! Great friends and great evening all around.

Food Fest!
Holiday time is, naturally, a food fest! I guess we are reverting to our primal ways, or acting as bears do, stocking up for a long winter's nap. We eat-too much, we drink-too much, we sleep-too much, but we do have a good time. And since life is short, as we all know too well, eat, drink, nap and be merry! 'Tis the season after all.
Other than huge meals for Thanksgiving, friends and Christmas, I've been cooking just for the three of us: Pasta fagioli, Chicken noodle soup, Muffaletta sandwich (crusty bread warm from the oven stuffed with prosciutto, hot cappicola, ham, genoa, provolone and smothered in crushed olive salad), Chili with rice, cheese, scallions and sour cream on the side, Chicken cutlets, etc...
I still have on my list: Borscht with meat and matzoh balls, White bean and spinach soup, Shrimp scampi over linguine, Rack of frenched lamb chops with rosemary and Cioppino with garlic bread.
Tonight, however, I am not cooking :) and we are going to Glenn and Eileen's for a big "framily" Chinese dinner. New year's eve we are going out to dinner at Il Poeta with Joe and Denise and Monica and Tom and then we are off to Leslie's for a party!!
Happy and Healthy New Year to you all.
